Care Staff sacked over ‘manual handling practices’

Several members of care staff have been dismissed from their jobs at the Minster Grange care home in York following an investigation. Concerns were raised when a whistleblower queried ‘manual handling practices’ within the home. Initially, three carers and a nurse were suspended pending the investigation. The investigation concluded against five carers in total and they have been sacked. The nurse, who was found not to be at fault, subsequently resigned their post.

A spokeswoman was keen to emphasise that no resident had been harmed as a result. She confirmed that the ‘safeguarding incident’ had been referred to the police as a matter of routine but stated that no additional police action would be required.

The home has previously been taken to task by The Care Quality Commission (CQC) with regards to levels of staffing and the care and welfare of residents.
