Matthew joined EDGE in 2006 following a career in the military and the NHS.
An accomplished moving and handling trainer, Matthew has a background in intensive care and palliative oncology nursing and has also worked as a moving and handling advisor in the community. Hailing from just outside Glasgow, Matthew is interested in World War II aircraft and in his spare time enjoys walking in Scotland, eating out and spending time with his wife Diane.
Favourite aspect of being an EDGE trainer... Having the opportunity to meet people from all areas of the care sector and being able to deliver a course which can improve the working environment of those that are trained.
Top Training Tip.... It is a very simple concept but look at all manual handling tasks in the following way:
From the client’s point of view does this moving and handling task feel wrong? – ask them. If yes then it probably is wrong.
From the care worker’s point of view does this moving and handling task look wrong? – ask yourself. If yes then it probably is wrong.
If what is happening feels and looks wrong then it most definitely is. STOP and re-think about a different approach.
