Children Handling and Risk Assessment Key Trainer's Certificate (Refresher/Update)
Course Overview
To update your 'Key Trainer's Certificate' and to ensure that you keep abreast of new legislation and developments in manual handling, EDGE recommend that you attend a ‘Refresher/Update’ course at least every two years. This two day course will further advance your professional development and manual handling skills, and provide you with a valuable opportunity to trade experience with others.
Who Will Benefit?
This two day course is designed for those who have previously attended the EDGE ‘Children Handling and Risk Assessment Trainer’s Certificate’ or similar course. If you have not previously been trained by EDGE you will be required to provide proof of your original qualification (please visit our FAQ section for further details).
Assessment and Certification
Course assessment comprises:
- a practical skills assessment, which takes place continuously throughout the course;
- informal Q&A throughout the duration of the course.
This course is assured as Customised Advanced Level 4 Award by RoSPA Qualifications. Furthermore, it is certified by the CPD Certification Service and aligned to the Skills for Health Core Skills Training Framework (CSTF). Upon successful completion of this training you will receive a certificate from EDGE Services and a Customised Advanced Level 4 Award from RoSPA Qualifications. Both certificates are valid for two years. (This qualification is a customised award and does not sit on the Ofqual Register of Qualifications.)
Course Aims and Intended Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course you will:
- articulate a good knowledge of, and explain relevant changes to the key legislation, and how these affect them, their job, their employer and other employees, with regards to: - The Manual Handling Operations Regulations, 1992 (as amended) describe, and explain any relevant changes to key legislation, which affects them, their job, their employer and employees:
- explain the key principles surrounding biomechanics and how they can be applied to the efficient movement of children/young adults, including the benefits of adopting improved posture;
- explain ergonomics, anthropometrics and the means by which they can reduce manual handling injuries;
- describe the importance of risk assessment and demonstrate a good understanding of how to undertake manual handling risk assessments;
- demonstrate the skills needed to undertake manual handling manoeuvres more safely in their specific working environment, and express a good understanding of the use of a range of small manual handling equipment and the use of specialised children’s hoists and slings;
- demonstrate new moves and evaluate new/updated manual handling equipment, as these are applicable;
- undertake case studies/scenarios to enhance learning.
